Objectives

The main objective of the proposed project is to use the complementary skills and background knowledge of the South African and Romanian teams for exploring the use of band-gap tuneable compounds based on doped transition metal oxides as photo-catalytic coatings.  Optical plasma diagnosis, using optical emission spectroscopy, will be used in the magnetron sputtering deposition devices, for obtaining a reproducible and scalable deposition method for the novel photo-catalytic coatings. Plasma diagnosis in Hot-wire CVD processes will be also implemented, through a close collaboration the both teams, aiming for a simple and reliable process control.  The novel photo-catalytic coatings for radical generation will be developed for water and air remediation treatments, using abundant materials and ecological synthesis methods.
